By 1:00, we were headed west. Through Arkansas, with a short stop for gas and another for the restroom, we made great time. Howard was so tired from two days of day care (and a hair cut Tuesday morning), that he slept most of the way. Also, with everything in the car, he had only one side of the back seat, fitted with his crate cushion, and he was harnessed to prevent roaming during the freeway drive.
Sophie, too, did splendidly. She meowed two or three times when we first got in the car, then she slept quietly the whole way.
Earlier that morning, I phoned my father to let him know we would indeed be at his house that evening. Unfortunately, though, he never checked his voice mail.
Around 7:30 Tuesday evening, we pulled up, and well, let's just say Dad was a little surprised to see us. But all was fine, and we had a nice visit that evening.
Wednesday morning, after a trip to Starbucks, but of course, Howard and I headed to the clinic. Howard loves it there; he gets oodles of attention from Dad's staff. We hung out there and out in the barn. (Howard was extremely interested in the colt with the injured leg and the calf with the injured hoof; Howard even stood on his hind legs and gave the calf a kiss once the calf was secured in the shoot.) Then after lunch (provided by a drug rep), I went and picked up Sophie, taking her to the clinic.
Both critters got their annual shots, and Howard got some ear wash to try to prevent future issues there. And, WooHoo! They both got microchips. Dad was great with putting in the chips; not even a single whimper from either of 'em.
With all the medical side taken care of, we hit the road again. This time, we were headed south, off to see Grandma. (that'd be Mom, to me.) I'm headed back to Dad's for a few more nights before I leave Texas, so although this stop was brief, it wasn't all there will be.
