Settling In & Getting Ready

Sunday, December 2

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast here at the Mosa Courts on Sunday morning, we walked several blocks down to the mini-mart store to stock up on water and diet coke (coke light). As we walked, we passed a church, full to the door, with standing room capacity under canopies outside where loud speakers broadcast the happenings inside. Uganda is predominantly Christian, seen in the church attendance, heard in various conversations, and noted in peoples’ names. (The majority of folks I’ve met have Biblical names, especially from the Old Testament.)

Supplies in stock, we settled in for some work, organizing the lessons we would teach over the week and preparing Monday’s sessions. We divided up the various topics covered, giving ourselves breaks throughout the day as well as breaking up for the participants whom they must listen too. Between Mimi’s northeast accent and my Texas one, it must be difficult for the participants to understand us at times.

Here's s view of the Mosa Courts:

Before we had set off for the mini-mart, though, we noticed that the salon here at the Mosa Courts was open, so we went over and made some appointments for that afternoon. So as we wrapped up our work, we then both, in turn, enjoyed a great massage by Josephine---a traditional Swedish massage, costing about $17. You cannot beat that!

Afterwards, we needed lunch; it would be a very late lunch. We made our way first to a bank to get some more shillings, walked around to find a bakery Mimi enjoys for lunch. Alas, it was not open on Sunday. But we did find a nice little outdoor internet café where we ate.

Once back to the apartment, we worked a bit more then both needed a nap. It was risky, napping so late, but I was so tired having slept so few hours the night before.

A bit later we simply went down to the restaurant here and had a few snacks before finally turning in. After all, Monday would be a busy day!
